Local Walks

Braithwaite has a wonderful setting amidst the Lake District fells. There a plenty of short walks around the village and surrounding area. On the quiet country roads you can walk through Braithwaite towards Newlands and take the road to the Swinside Inn and follow the road round into the Newlands Valley and back to Braithwaite. This is a walk with no serious climbs and plenty of scenery and will take about an hour.

It it also possible to walk one of the local fell running courses the “Coledale Horseshoe” this involves a fair amount of climbing and takes in Grisedale Pike, Eel Crags, and Barrow before returning back to Braithwaite approx distance 6 miles.

Whinlatter Forest Centre is also close by and contains many trails through the woodland and also has an adventure centre for the kids. There is also the Osprey Centre here. The Whinlatter Forest is well worth the visit. There are also some spectacular views to be had from Lords Seat over Bassenthawaite Lake to the Solway beyond.

For the serious walker a trip to Borrowdale Valley will provide you with all the challenges you need. The Scafell range, Great Gable and Glaramara are all accessible from here.
